2013 yoUnlimited Women Award Winner: Health and Wellness
Living a healthy life might evoke images of being a fast runner, a toned gym-goer, or finally fitting back into those slim jeans, but Mena Westhaver knows this has nothing to do with it.
“Living well means living a balanced lifestyle that includes a bit of a lot of things,” she says. “Eating great food, doing something active everyday, recognizing your joys and enjoying them, being mindful of screen time, reading something everyday, short or long, socializing with friends and family, volunteering in your community and enjoying the spontaneity of what may just pass you by.”
Mena keeps the issue close to her heart. As creator of Sole Sisters Victoria, a program that works with women through their journeys of health and wellness, Mena has seen women make huge changes through walk and run programs, spin classes, yoga and more. The mission is part of what earned her a nod as winner of the Health and Wellness category in the 2013 Unlimited Women Awards. When she’s not inspiring others, for the last 25 years she has also works as a recreation programmer through the District of Saanich — and coaches youth hockey players.
